Roberto Mancini has urged the powers-that-be at Manchester City to move quickly for his summer targets after his side’s comfortable win over West Ham United.
Sergio Aguero finished off a superb team goal and talismanic midfielder Yaya Toure’s wonder-strike was enough to see the Blues home, despite a late Joe Hart blunder giving Andy Carroll a consolation.
But Mancini, while insisting the three points were vital, admitted the Blues are competing against Europe’s elite in trying to ensure there’s no repeat of last year’s recruiting nightmare.
“It’s important to move quickly as lots of teams want to buy new players – we can talk about Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and United,” said the Italian.
“If we don’t move quickly after a good player, it could finish – but I can’t say who.
“Now it’s important for us to finish strong in the championship and now we need to win our next game to get second, and win the FA Cup final.”
City had no reason to turn it on at the Etihad, with the former champions in cruise control from start to finish.
Argentine Aguero opened the scoring on 28 minutes, finishing through former Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen’s legs after a slick passing move.
Ivorian powerhouse Toure sealed the game with a delightful left-foot curling effort on 83 minutes before a clearly-injured Hart let Carroll’s shot through his legs in stoppage-time.
Mancini insisted he was happy with the win, but wants his side to be ruthless in front of goal.
“I’m happy for the victory, but also today, we were missing a lot on goal,” said Mancini.
“We should have had four, five or six goals and the game is dead – but it’s important to win.
“The first goal showed typical City – we scored a fantastic goal. At the same time, it’s enough to put their foot through and score, not just score beautiful.
“Carroll did good stuff for his goal, and we should show more attention. But at the end, it was important we got the three points.”
