Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane ruled out ‘arrogance’ and is expecting a tough ride at the K.C. Stadium when his side take on Hull F.C.
The home of the Arlie Birds is where Wane first took charge of the Warriors first team for a 0-46 victory in 2010 when the then assistant coach filled-in for Michael Maguire.
And despite Wigan’s dominant record at the K.C. Stadium, Wane is expecting a stern test as they look to retain their place at Super League’s summit.
“We won’t be going into this game arrogant,” said Wane.
“We know it will be a really good arm wrestle which won’t be won in the first 50 or 60 minutes.
“It will go to the death and that’s what we’re training for.
“We know can stay in an arm wrestle if we need to and score tries, so it’s up to us to defend. I’m not going to be fooled that they can score tries as well.”
Hull have won their last three Super League outings seeing them squeeze into the top eight play-off places.
With Huddersfield Giants keeping pressure on Wigan at the top, Wane used an overnight stay in Hull to ensure his players are ready.
“We’re taking no chances,” Wane added.
“Preparation is the key for the players and everybody buys into that.
“It will be a really tough game and they’ve got some quality players.
Wane also thinks Wigan’s strong defensive record will be tested after Hull scored 12 tries against North Wales Crusaders in last week’s Challenge Cup fourth round.
But he thinks his men can cope with the task if they stick to their game plan.
“They are playing a really good brand of rugby, especially in their attack. They can play and have threats throughout their team,” he said.
“It’s all about us, how we defend, attack and approach the game.
“We’ve done alright at Hull so fingers crossed and touch wood we’ll do everything we can to make sure it happens again.”
Blake Green, Michael McIlorum and Liam Farrell all return to the Wigan squad after being rested last week.
