Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to splash transfer cash but insists Hernandez should call Old Trafford home

By Alex Bysouth

As Manchester Uniited sit on the verge of a 20th league title, boss Sir Alex Ferguson is already plotting who to splash his transfer kitty on this summer.

Ferguson has already tied up a deal for Crystal Palace and England youngster Wilfired Zaha but could be tempted to splash the cash if another of his targets became available.

Atletico Madrid’s Falcao was linked to Old Trafford earlier this season, but rumours are now circulating about the Scot’s interest in Dormund hit-man Robert Lewandowski.

“Bayern Munich are strong in that one too aren’t they?” he said. “We’ll just have to wait and see where we are in terms of if we win the league – maybe then we’ll view it differently.

“The main thing is, in what position? Normally, the players you’re talking about are forwards and it’s complicated enough as it is with the forwards we have.

“I think it’ll be minor rebuilding, maybe but I don’t know.”

However, the Red Devils boss did state his intent to keep hold of Javier Hernandez and was impressed by the Mexican’s performance after coming off the bench against West Ham.

“There is no reason to think this is not the place for him,” Ferguson added.

“We hope he feels as though he has made a contribution – he has scored 16 goals – when he came on the other night his movement was terrific. He created a lot of openings for us.

“I thought we were pretty unlucky not to win it. Their goalkeeper made a couple of saves, one shot was cleared off the line and he was very unlucky with a header.

“Hernandez has got these things in his locker all the time, his enthusiasm to play is always there.”

Ferguson also admitted he would like to keep veteran defender Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford for at least another season.

“I’ve spoken to Rio,” added Sir Alex. “At this moment in time, he’s more concerned about getting opposition for his testimonial game. He’s working on that for the moment.

“We want him to stay and obviously I’m sure his representatives will be discussing things with David Gill. I wouldn’t imagine that moving abroad would be the best thing for him.”
