David Luiz has demanded an apology from Manchester City’s Serio Aguero, after the striker lunged at the Chelsea man during their FA Cup semi final on Sunday.
City set up a final with Wigan Athletic by seeing off Rafa Benitez’s side 2-1 at Wembley, with Aguero netting the decisive goal.
However, he appeared to jump at Luiz with two feet late on and the Brazilian defender was disappointed with the example set by the match winner.
“If it was the opposite and I did the tackle, I would say ‘sorry this is not me, this is not good for football’,” he said.
“Kids watch the game and need to see good things.
“I forgive everybody in my life, but Aguero is a great player and he needs to honest with himself and say I don’t like to do bad tackles.”
The win kept City in with a chance of ending this season with some silverware, after Manchester United all but secured the Premier League title earlier in the day.
Luiz was disappointed with his side’s exit from the competition and expressed his surprise that Aguero had put in such a reckless challenge.
“I think it was that because I never saw Aguero doing bad tackles on other players,” he said.
“I didn’t speak to him after the game. I have a good heart. I don’t like to beat on people and talk in a bad way.
“I just like to play football. We need to show football is beautiful.
“In games like this both teams want to win. Sometimes people can be angry and do things they don’t want to do.”
City boss Roberto Mancini was asked about the challenge after the final whistle, but he did not see it the same way as Luiz.
“I don’t think so – it was a tackle,” he said. “Sergio is a good guy.”
Aguero will now have to wait to find out if he will face retrospective action from the FA, which may impact next month’s final.
