Mexican stand-off: Alex Ferguson vows Manchester United hitman Javier Hernandez is not going anywhere

By Chris Bailey

Teams may be sniffing around Manchester United for Javier Hernandez, but Sir Alex Ferguson has made his stance clear – the goal-poacher is not for sale.

The 24-year-old has netted 16 in 28 appearances this season but remained an unused substitute in five of United’s last eight games.

Rumours are connecting the striker to Real Madrid and Juventus, but Ferguson believes Hernandez – who is contracted at the Red Devils until 2016 – is too crucial to let go.

“We won’t be entertaining any interest from anyone, no doubt about that,” said the Scot.

“As far as we are concerned he is a really important player for us. You can see that any time he comes into a game he changes it. He does something different from the other strikers.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is another Old Trafford hero who sat on the bench at various points in his United career – behind strikers such as Andy Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, while Ferguson admits the Norwegian was more easy-going than Hernandez, he insists the diminutive Mexican is displaying the perfect attitude in fighting for his place.

“There’s no evidence that Chicharito has been annoyed or disappointed,” he added.

“Ole was a very laid-back lad and he could probably handle it quite easily – I’m sure Chicharito wants to play every game.

“But he has been great. His training performances have been terrific, his enthusiasm to play is brilliant and I have absolutely no issues at all with the lad.

“He has been absolutely brilliant, a breath of fresh air since the day he came to the club.”
