A Stockport teenager whose body was found on Monday near Deansgate railway station died as a result of a fall, police confirmed today.
Adam Pickup, 17, was last seen on December 28 on Oxford Road with CCTV showing him talking to a couple.
After an extensive investigation police have now been able to establish a cause of death.
Chief Superintendent Nick Adderley said: “While formal identification has not taken place we believe this is the body of missing Adam Pickup. His family has been informed.
“This is a heart-breaking time for Adam’s family and our thoughts are with them.
“Our initial indication is that that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, however speculation as to what may have happened will not give the answers Adam’s family is looking for.”
Two men who were earlier arrested have now been released without charge.
Adam’s mother Chantal Pickup, 42, posted a message on behalf of her family, which said: “We are so sorry to have to tell people this way but we know so many people are waiting for news.
“It is with the greatest sadness that we have to tell you all that our beloved son Adam was found passed away about an hour ago.
“We are devastated but so grateful to everybody who has helped search for Adam and given us their love and support. Chris, Chantal and Ben.”
