‘World’s best dance club’ Sankeys have officially confirmed that they are to reopen in Manchester.
MM revealed last week that the legendary Manchester dance haven was secretly planning its return to the city in early 2014.
Yet despite a music insider revealing that a stack of high profile DJs were already on the roster, long-time owner David Vincent had remained coy on what the January might bring.
Sankeys dispelled any doubt last night however with a tweet from their Ibiza account.
“Sankeys Manchester is reopening!!!” it simply stated. This was retweeted only minutes later by the official Sankeys Club account.
Hardwell, high off being crowned DJ Mag’s Number One DJ of the Year 2013, is one of the names being linked to the club. The Dutch electro-house master is expected to return in February.
Social media is already awash with former Sankeys clubbers exclaiming their delight at the news.
Maddie Brindley said: “I’m 100000% psychic. I had a dream two days ago that Sankeys was reopening and now it actually is!!? Dreams do come true.”
Sam Blackburn said: “The fact I’ve just seen that Sankeys is reopening has definitely put me in a better mood.”
However not everyone was thrilled by the news.
Lauren Edwards was far from surprised by the reopening and slammed them for closing in the first place.
“Exactly why I refused to pay for Sankeys ‘closing party’ and then a closing after party! Maybe I’m stingy but knew there’d be a reopening soon,” she said.
When MM quizzed Sankeys’ owner Vincent on the news last week he gave an enigmatic response that more than hinted the rumours were true.
He said: “Who knows what destiny will bring to Manchester in the new year?”
The January homecoming will coincide with the final stretch of Warehouse Project dates in December, meaning Manchester clubbers still have something to look forward to in 2014.
Before shutting, Sankeys popularity had won it ‘Best club in the world’ title in DJ Mag Awards after establishing its ability to pull in renowned DJs such as Pete Tong, Daft Punk, Gareth Emery and Fatboy Slim.
Earlier this year it was announced that the Ancoats location would cease running as the Sankeys team began to focus on their Ibiza project in Playa d’en Bossa.
After a successful season in the sun Sankeys has once again darted oversees, opening their first club in New York City.
Their first night, called The British are coming, debuted in Manhattan on October 31.
