The ‘world’s best club’ Sankeys is expected to return to Manchester in mid-January, MM can reveal.
The venue closed its doors ‘indefinitely’ in May much to Manchester clubbers’ disappointment, but rumours of its return have been rife ever since.
Now a source has revealed to MM that preparations are underway for its doors to re-open in the New Year and a string of DJs have already been lined-up.
MM’s source – a major promoter in the dance music scene who wished to remain anonymous – has confirmed that despite it being kept under wraps, the homecoming is happening.
Sankeys’ long-time owner David Vincent gave an enigmatic response when MM quizzed him on the news.
He said: “Who knows what destiny will bring to Manchester in the new year?
“Nothing is confirmed.”
The January homecoming will coincide with the final stretch of Warehouse Project dates in December, meaning that Manchester will still remain a hotspot for music fanatics into 2014.
Before shutting, Sankeys popularity had even won it ‘Best club in the world’ title in DJ Mag Awards after establishing its ability to pull in renowned DJs such as Pete Tong, Daft Punk, Gareth Emery and Fatboy Slim.
Earlier this year it was announced that the Ancoats location would cease running as the Sankeys team began to focus on their Ibiza project in Playa d’en Bossa.
After a successful season in the sun Sankeys has once again darted oversees, opening their first club in New York City.
Their first night, called The British are coming, debuted in Manhattan on October 31.
