Bolton man left unable to eat after unprovoked punch breaks his jaw and fractures his eye socket

By Danielle Wainwright

A CCTV image of a man suspected of attacking a partygoer so viciously that he is unable to eat after sustaining a broken jaw and a fractured eye socket in Bolton has been released.

The 24-year-old victim had been enjoying a night out on Bank Street on September 15 at around 4.10am with a friend when they passed a gang of three men.

One of the gang confronted the victim for no reason and punched him in the face. The man fell back from the blow and was knocked unconscious.

His friend tried to intervene but he was also assaulted. The gang fled when members of the public ran to their aid.

Detective Constable Dave Fox said: “Such was the ferocity of this attack that he has already had one operation on his jaw and may need another as he is still unable to eat normal foods.

“This sort of unprovoked violence is totally unacceptable and the offender needs to be caught.”

The main offender is described as being white, about 5ft 10in tall, of a medium build with tanned skin and stubble. He was wearing a white T-shirt with orange stripes and dark coloured jeans.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been bailed until next month.

DC Fox added: “I would ask people to look carefully at the CCTV image and if you think you recognise this man, then please come forward.

“Anyone with information about this assault should phone the police or Crimestoppers in confidence if needed, because that information could be key to finding the offender.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5757 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
