Manchester child rapist jailed after subjecting girl, 12, to more than five years of sex abuse

By Danielle Wainwright

A Manchester rapist who subjected a 12-year-old-girl to more than five years of brutal sexual abuse was jailed today for 15 years.

Andrew William John Furbey, 27, of no fixed address, was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court of nine counts of rape for a catalogue of sex crimes between September 2003 and March 2009.

He raped his victim throughout her childhood and teenage years up until she turned 17.

Detective Sergeant Suzanne Keenaghan said: “This has been an extremely difficult time for the victim. She has had to suffer at the hands of Furbey for more than five years.

“It wasn’t until she was older that she had the courage to come forward and report it to police.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to bringing perpetrators of these serious crimes against children to justice and I hope this sentence helps her find some closure.”
