Stray cat in desperate need for home as Manchester RSPCA beg animal lovers not to shun black beauties

By Chloe Vinden

Take a look at those big green eyes to the right – this is Eva, a beautiful homeless cat who isn’t even one yet.

This nine-month stray cat is currently RSPCA Manchester and Salford’s longest stay feline. Neutered, flea treated, worm treated and micro chipped, Eva has been at the refuge for four months.

With black cats taking on average, three times longer to rehome than felines of other colours, the branch’s chair of trustees Hannah Brookfield, 26, said: “Cats like Eva are often ignored as they are seen as ‘boring’ looking.

“To me Eva represents all the black cats we have struggled to rehome over the years. I can recall most of their names which shows how long some of them were in our care.

“I’m not sure if its superstition or people choosing ‘prettier’ coloured cats, it’s very sad. Eva has a cracking personality, loves other cats and people. In fact, she’s the winning combination.

“Fingers crossed we can find her a home before Christmas, we certainly won’t give up.”

Due to her confident and fun nature, Eva is suitable to live with children aged five and over and likes to have her own pen in which she is sometimes found rearranging toys and blankets to her own liking.

If anyone is interested in giving Eva a loving home they should either email [email protected] or call the branch on 0161 882 0680.
