A Dragon’s Den style event in Wigan tomorrow will give residents the opportunity to vote on how funding is shared to support those living in the Scholes area with dementia.
The event will be hosted by Wigan Council between 2pm and 4pm at St Patrick’s Rugby Club, Harper Street, where the future of the money to make Scholes more ‘dementia-friendly’ will be decided.
Members of the public will have the chance to vote on ideas put forward by individuals and organisations proposing to deliver certain services.
Councillor Keith Cunliffe, Wigan Council cabinet member for adult social care, said: “We have been listening to what people think would improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers in Scholes.
“We are now in a position where we have a range of potential services which could launch with the funding, but the public will have the final say on how the money is to be allocated.
“So, we hope Friday is a date in everyone’s diary; please either come and be a part of the audience at the Dragons’ Den event or call in beforehand and cast your vote.”
Those who are not able to attend the whole event can take part in a speed vote by calling in between 12pm and 2pm to meet, greet and question the pitchers and register their votes before the main event.
Wigan Council has previously held two dementia-friendly Scholes events. Both events saw individuals, businesses, charities, social groups and other organisations contribute to the conversation about what is needed to help people suffering with dementia, their families, and carers.
