An e-fit has been released of a cyclist who is suspected of making inappropriate sexual comments to lone female joggers and making them feel uncomfortable by staring at them in Didsbury and Fallowfield.
Between August 21 and 29, several women aged between 23 and 38 reported that a man had made the comments causing genuine harassment and distress.
Most of the offences were committed between 6pm and 8pm around the River Mersey area, and neighbouring roads and estates north of the river.
The minority of offences occurred in streets surrounding the Fallowfield Sainsburys on Wilmslow Road, between 10pm and 1am.
Detective Inspector Mark Radford, based in South Manchester, said: “We don’t want to unduly alarm anyone, but it would be remiss of us not to warn people about these incidents.
“At this stage the offender hasn’t progressed towards physically attacking anyone, but that doesn’t lessen the impact of what he is doing.
“To be followed and then stared at by a stranger is, at best creepy, and at worst really sinister. I now want people to take a good look at the e-fit and call us if you recognise him.”
The offender is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s and wearing a dark baseball cap and sometimes wearing a ruck sack.
DI Radford has also advised women in the area to take some simple precautions, especially if out at night.
“Stick to well-lit areas, be aware of your surroundings and, if possible, go out jogging with a friend,” he said.
“We are taking these offences very seriously and I want to reassure residents that we are doing our utmost to catch the offender.”
