Three men believed to have committed a violent armed robbery resulting in a high-speed car chase by police through the streets of Stockport on Monday have been arrested.
Police were called to the Co-op store on Gillbent Road in Cheadle Hulme after robbers threatened staff with a large knife and hammer before raiding the shop of cigarettes and cash.
The offenders fled in a stolen Saab car and the vehicle was quickly pursued until it stopped deliberately and reversed into the front of the police car.
Two men, aged 20 and 35, were detained by police near the collision and a third man was arrested later that night.
Detective Inspector Michael Griffiths from Great Manchester Police’s Stockport division said: “Last night’s operation was extremely fast moving and resulted in three big men being arrested.
“Thanks to the skills of the trained officers in the car, they were able to quickly end what could have been a dangerous pursuit and bring it to a safe conclusion.”
If anyone has any information about the incident call police on 0161 856 9970.
