Police are appealing for a couple to come forward after they helped a confused and distressed woman get home after she was raped in Manchester in April.
The Good Samaritans helped the 26-year-old victim to her apartment in the Islington Wharf area at around 5am on Sunday April 28 explained to her partner that they had found her in a confused state on a nearby canal towpath.
The victim had been out in Manchester but has no recollection of what happened as she left the Gay Village at around 3am and although disorientated, she remembered her address.
The police were later called and after an investigation, it emerged that the woman is believed to have been sexually assaulted.
Detective Constable Tracy Oldham said: “Clearly, this has been a distressing experience for the victim, who has no recollection of what happened that night, but we are committed to finding out and will do all we can to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.
“I would reassure the public that these types of incident are extremely rare and that this appears to have been a one-off incident.”
The man who brought her home is described as being light skinned, of slim build, clean shaven with blond hair which was high at the front and short at the sides. He was about 6ft tall and wearing a shirt and jeans.
He was with a woman who was described as white but quite tanned, with long brown hair that went down to the waist, of slim build and about 5ft 6in tall. She was wearing a green and brown maxi dress.
Detective Oldham added: “The man and woman who came to this woman’s aid are not in any trouble; we simply want to know what they saw, as they could be vital witnesses.”
Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 2258 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
