Friends and relatives of people living in care homes will be given advice and guidance by Salford Council on how to ensure that their loved ones are being adequately looked after.
Guidance has been offered on a two-page information sheet in conjunction with Salford Care Homes Association after feedback showed that relatives were often confused on how to raise concerns with the care of someone in a home.
The sheet provides information on what to expect from a good care home, what to do if there are any concerns and advice on deciding whether a care home is meeting standards.
Councillor Peter Connor, assistant mayor for adult services, said: “Most of the time care homes provide excellent care for their residents and any minor issues or worries can be cleared up by a quick chat with a member of staff.”
The guide also provides further information on how to make formal complaints, where to receive further guidance, including contacts for members of staff and external charities.
Mr Connor stressed the importance of not being afraid to voice concerns.
He said: “People should never be afraid to speak up and never fear that complaining will cause problems for them or their relative.”
The new information sheet will is available in care homes and will also be given out to new residents.
It is also available online here.
