A pensioner who died in a Shaw car crash on Wednesday has been described as a ‘lovely man’ and a ‘true friend’ by his friends and family.
Stuart Howarth, 62, was killed at around 6.50pm when his blue Ford Escort drove straight through a T-junction between Salts Street and Fraser Street without slowing and collided with a dry stone wall.
Paramedics arrived at the incident a few minutes later but Mr Howarth was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the crash, witnesses said the car was speeding, however it is believed Mr Howarth suffered some kind of medical episode whilst at the wheel.
Mr Howarth’s cousin Pat said: “Our Stuart was a lovely man and a true friend to me and my family. His support has always been invaluable.
“I know he was also loved and respected by all his friends at Crompton Cricket Club, which was like his second home. He will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege to know him”
Any witnesses are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.
