A have-a-go hero had three teeth knocked out and his eye socket shattered when he bravely broke up a Rochdale pub argument and was rewarded with a vicious blow to the face.
At about 3.30pm on Friday 26 April 2013, the 42-year-old victim was in the smoking area of the White Lion on Yorkshire Street.
Moments earlier he had intervened in an argument between his attacker and a member of staff.
The offender then approached the man and hit him in the side of the face, causing the horrific injuries – including damage to his retina.
Detective Constable Amie Darnell, said: “The victim simply intervened in a verbal argument between the offender and a member of staff and suffered a devastating blow for his troubles moments later.
“This was an unprovoked assault that has left the victim with very nasty facial injuries.”
The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, of medium build, between 28 and 30 years old, with short black hair and was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a light blue line across the chest.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the attack to get in touch with their local authority.
After the offender hit the victim in the side of the face he ran off along Yorkshire Street.
DC Amie Darnell said: “There were a number of other people present at the pub and I want their help to identify the offender.
“If you were in the pub at the time, saw what happened or know the person responsible please call the police.”
