Manchester Fashion Week has been ‘fully’ cancelled according to the organiser’s ticket merchant following a series of financial setbacks which saw the event postponed last month.
This follows claims that a number of model agencies and businesses have yet to be paid for their work from last year’s event.
Ticketline customers were today informed that the event was cancelled and the face value of their ticket would be refunded within 5-7 working days.
It also read: “On behalf of all parties concerned, Ticketline wishes to apologise for the inconvenience this cancellation may cause.”
A Ticketline spokesman told MM that they hadn’t been issued any further information regarding the cancellation.
SEO Executive and Fashion Blogger Simon Bowers, 35, said: “I’m just saddened that it’s come to this, and quite annoyed that it’s going to have a wider effect on Manchester; nobody will think we can host great events like this.
“It appears like the team behind it have rushed to get a venue and shows, but perhaps didn’t do enough to fully secure sponsorship and funds.
“It’s very disappointing for a lot of people, local schools and universities have put a lot of work into the shows that now won’t get showcased.
“I can only imagine how the students feel – I for one was very much looking forward to their shows in particular.”
Manchester Fashion Week Director Jonathan Sassen said the event was merely postponed and hoped to host the show in a few weeks’ time.
