Manchester City did not discuss having their own FA Cup victory parade on the same day as United’s planned title celebrations, according to a city council statement.
A bus parade in celebration of United’s Premier League title triumph is planned for the early evening of Monday May 13 – just two days after City may lift the FA Cup.
Reaction to the date of the Red Devils’ parade, which comes six days before the last league game of the season, prompted many to believe that it would clash with City’s possible FA Cup celebrations.
However, a council statement released yesterday dispelled the rumours.
“We are happy to confirm that there will be a parade in the early evening of Monday 13 May to mark Manchester United FC’s title win, travelling from Old Trafford to Manchester City Centre. Full details will be announced in due course,” a council spokesperson said.
“We would also like to clarify that, contrary to the implication in some sections of the media today, Manchester City FC have never discussed or requested having a parade on Monday 13 May, or any other date, should they win the FA Cup and any suggestion about there being competition for that date is entirely unfounded.”
The winners of the FA Cup would usually parade their silverware around their home town the following Monday, as City did in 2011.
United will be presented with their league trophy after their home match against Swansea the day before their parade.
The route will start at Old Trafford and head into the city centre, where it is expected to end at Exchange Square.
