Manchester police arrest three after man found dead in Gorton ‘hostel’ bed with serious injuries

By Mancunian Matters staff

Police have arrested three people in connection with a man who died following an attack in Gorton this weekend.

Emergency services were called to hostel-style flats on Hyde Road shortly before 1.50pm on Saturday and found the 44-year-old victim, whose injuries are consistent with a serious assault.

However, the exact cause of death remains unknown.

A 20-year-old man was detained by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of attempted murder last night following the initial arrests of a 54-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman on the same charge.

Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this time.

“I know residents will be alarmed by this incident, but I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is now taking place and there are extra patrols in the area.”

The flats on Hyde Road are believed to regularly cater for tenants with drug and alcohol problems and are also near a bail hostel.

All three of the arrested remain in police custody for questioning, while officers try and trace relatives of the murdered man.

“I would urge anyone who has information that can assist our enquiries to call us as soon as possible,” added Chief Supt Jackson.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
