A taxi driver suffered a fractured cheekbone when he was spat on and punched when a passenger ‘flipped out’ over the direction he was driving.
The 51-year-old was attacked in Altrincham town centre at around 12.30am on Sunday 17 March.
The offender, who entered the taxi with a woman near the Suburbia night club, started fighting with the driver after they were told they could leave the vehicle if they wanted following an argument.
PC Lynn Moore, based at Altrincham, South INPT said: “The passenger completely flipped out and launched at the taxi driver.
“The taxi driver was just doing his job and he should never have to raise his fists to protect himself from violent passengers.”
The woman got out of the car, however the violent offender began pounding on the glass partition which separates drivers and passengers.
He then stepped out of the car and spat in the driver’s face through his window.
The driver threw a cup of coffee at his attacker, causing the passenger to punch him in the face, knocking him to the floor.
The driver managed to get up and a fight ensued but the thug eventually backed away and ran off.
During the attack, the driver suffered a fractured cheekbone and a cut lip, and was later treated at hospital.
According to police, the offender was white, with a slim build, around 5ft 11in tall, in his late 20s or early 30s and had black hair.
He also wore an open neck shirt and spoke with a Cheshire accent.
PC Moore added: “I now want people to take a good look at the CCTV photo and let me know if you recognise the offender.”
