Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez escapes prison but given 250 hours community service for driving offences

By Glen Keogh

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has avoided a prison sentence but will be forced to carry out 250 hours of community service.

The Argentinian, 29, could have been jailed for up to six months, but his lawyer Gwyn Lewis, known as ‘Merlin the Magician’, ensured his star client escaped prison.

Tevez was also issued with a £1000 fine and banned from driving for a further six months added to the six-month ban he was handed in January.

He was charged for driving while disqualified and without insurance last month and pleaded guilty to the offences at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The star, who earns a reported £200,000 per week, was stopped in Cheshire driving his Porsche Cayenne on the afternoon of March 7.
