A passerby was shocked to discover a dead dog in a shallow grave in a public park in Greater Manchester.
The body of the female bully type dog appeared to have recently given birth and was found with a bloodstain on its chest, and a broken front leg behind the North Nelson pub car park on Bridge Street in Hindley, near Wigan.
Police have not ruled anything out at this stage, although the dog had no obvious signs of neglect or trauma.
RSPCA Animal Rescue officer Lee Ferrans took the dog’s body to the vet.
Ferrans said: “The poor dog had very recently died, possibly only a few days before. She was microchipped but the chip wasn’t registered.
“The body was discovered wrapped in a blanket last week and the RSPCA sent out an appeal for more information today.
“If anyone heard or saw anything in the area, please contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 in strictest confidence.”
