Tributes for three-year-old killed in tram crash

Flowers, chocolates, milk and toys have been left in tribute to a three-year-old girl who was killed in a crash involving a tram and a van in Manchester city centre on Saturday.

Louisa ‘Lulu’ Palmisano, from Burnley, was enjoying a family day out before the fatal collision occurred at the junction of Mosely Street and Booth Street.

The general manager of a nearby coffee shop, David, recalled hearing a loud bang as the incident happened.

He said: “I heard the tram hit the van. It did impact us but we’re OK now.

“It’s hard to put into words.”

The coffee house and barista school, 200 Degrees, has tables and windows alongside the crossroads where the child was struck.

Lulu was rushed to hospital before she died from her injuries. While speaking out about the anguish of losing their only child, her parents said her absence has left a void.

‘‘She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day.

“The pain of losing her is unbearable, and we miss her more than words can ever express.”

A 35-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He will appear in court today.

The police are still appealing for witnesses of the accident to come forward.
