Hundreds of people marched through the centre of Manchester in a women’s march protesting a lack of political action following rising levels of violence against women and girls.
The march was set up solely online by the group UK Women’s March to coincide with others taking place in the United States ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Attending the march were people protesting on the street for the first time and more experienced activists with a range of issues affecting women around the world and in the UK being discussed.
Sophie Cain, co-lead organiser for the Manchester March said: “We are at national crisis level.
“Every few days we’re seeing another woman has been murdered or violently assaulted by a partner, by a stranger in their home, on the street, it’s everywhere.”
