Trafford is officially the Greater Manchester borough with the most students who passed their GCSEs, according to government data.
Of the 10 boroughs, 87% of Trafford’s pupils achieved a pass grade 5(C) or above, which was around 10% higher than the next highest boroughs, Stockport (78%) and Bolton (75%).
Year 11 pupils are graded 9-1, with a 1 equalling a U grade and a 9 pertaining to an A* in the previous education system.
GCSE grades in the region differed drastically, with data showing an almost 30% difference between the top performing borough, Trafford, and the lowest performing borough, Rochdale.
Rochdale had the lowest number of pupils who achieved a grade 5 or above with 66%, (1820) of year 11 pupils at state schools in the borough passing their GCSEs.
Narrowly out-performing Rochdale was Wigan, where 70% of 15-16 year olds passed their GCSEs, and Salford, where 69% of the pupils passed.
And regionally, nearly 10% more girls on average achieved a grade 5 and above at GCSE than their male classmates.
At Altrincham Grammar School for Boys 99.5% of its pupils achieved a grade 5 (C) or above in their GCSEs during the 2023/24 academic year, according to government data.
Headmaster, Graeme Wright, praised the teaching staff for their dedication to the pupils.
He said: “The school’s academic success is due to the hard work and expertise of the teachers, alongside the support of staff for our student’s welfare and wellbeing and the resilience, determination and commitment of our students.
“We also place a huge onus on the co-curricular programme as activities such as sport, music and drama are key to boosting transferable skills and ultimately a student’s future success.”
