Boxing: Catterall vs Prograis at Co-op Live – preview and prediction

Chorley’s Jack Catterall and American boxing star Regis Prograis will make history this weekend as they will headline the first ever boxing event at the new Co-op Live arena for their light welterweight bout in Manchester.

Catterall looks in fine form coming into the fight, having recently avenged his controversial loss against Josh Taylor in May, while Prograis hasn’t stepped foot in the ring since losing his WBC world title to Devin Haney last December.

The pair have an impressive 58 wins and just three losses between them, with Catterall coming into the fight with a record of 29-1, and Prograis coming in with a 29-2 record.

A win for either man would set up a career-defining opportunity for a mandatory title shot either early or mid-next year, meaning there is nothing to lose and everything to gain for both boxers in this mouth-watering clash.

Two other Mancunian boxers will be fighting on the card, with Campbell Hatton fighting Jimmy Joe Flint and William Crolla taking on Lorenzo Grasso at Light Middleweight.

Prediction

Jack Catterall has very technical style, and tends to use his jab whilst maintaining a solid guard.

He also now holds a win over former undisputed lightweight champion Josh Taylor, who defeated Prograis in a more dominating fashion than he did Catterall and their first meeting.

As for Prograis, his inactivity may play a key part in this fight, and his losses have come against more polished fighters, like Catterall.

Prograis is experienced and will certainly use his unorthodox style to disrupt Catterall’s rhythm by throwing powerful combination punches.
