MAFS star Lucinda Light interacting with her audience

Review: An evening with MAFS star Lucinda Light

The unforgettable Married at First Sight Australia contestant Lucinda, from this year’s series, has arrived in the UK to teach us all to be as flawed as we are fabulous.

MM saw her at York Barbican yesterday – before her sold-out visit to Manchester’s Palace Theatre this Wednesday 23 October.

Applying her ever-radiant “muchness”, Lucinda embraces the audience in what feels like a 90-minute melting hug. Luckily, Tim wasn’t there to ruin the fun.

Be prepared to be like Lucinda – your most unapologetic self. She’ll take the audience through meditations, yoga exercises, sing-alongs, boogie-woogies and many more interactive activities.

And when the time is right, she’ll share some of the hardships she endured to reach the level of emotional intelligence that has got her through life and, indeed, Married at First Sight. I can reveal that it involves a journey through the dense Malaysian jungle and a huge miscommunication.

You’ll learn things you didn’t know about the production of MAFS and Lucinda’s fellow cast members from Season 11. And if you get the chance during the Q&A, you can ask your juicy questions.

For example, I now know which contestant was portrayed most unfairly, according to Lucinda.

The dulcet tones of her voice, which I’m sure you’ll remember if you’ve seen her on TV, will keep you mesmerised all evening and persistently remind you to be your most authentic self – even though we live in a world that can feel ever so “conformed, controlled and conservative”.

The highlight of tonight’s show was the numerous MAFS references. Most of Lucinda’s jokes stem from her experiences on the reality show, so if you’ve watched MAFS, you’re in for a laugh.

She has an astonishing ability to turn the most gut-wrenching moments from the series into infectious belly laughs on stage, mostly at her emotionally unavailable tin man’s expense.

From the iconic “boobie apology” to the awkward charcuterie-board date, Lucinda’s (inside) jokes do not only make you feel connected to her, but also to the hundreds of other people seated in the theatre.

People around us would cheer in support of Lucinda’s strength and boo in disgust of certain MAFS contestants’ behaviour. It almost felt like re-watching the season’s highlights with a live audience.

You don’t want to miss it. It’s simply utterly divine.

Lucinda’s next event is at the Palace Theatre Manchester on Wednesday 23 October at 8pm.
