Police cordon off tram tracks after man dies

Police cordoned off an area near Harbour City Metrolink tram stop after a man was found dead on tram lines.

Emergency crews were on the scene at around 10.25pm Sunday night (October 20) as they investigated the incident.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing but police said there were no suspicious circumstances and no arrests were made.

A large area was condoned off in the operation

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “It is believed that the man may have collapsed or fallen onto the tracks, following which he was sadly hit by a tram.”

Pictures showed a large cordon in place around the tram stop.

A forensic screen was erected on the tracks as investigations took place.

Police now want to speak to any witnesses, or anyone with information about what happened, including any relevant CCTV footage.
