Manchester has been ranked third in a new list of the best Christmas Markets to visit this year.
The city’s famous markets were behind Birmingham and Edinburgh in the rankings, published by Christmas Tree World.
It compared data in a number of categories – including the number of social media posts, distance to train stations and Google searches – to give each market a score out of 10.
Birmingham achieved the highest mark (7.86) with Manchester scoring 6.55.
In its 26th year, the Manchester Christmas Markets are hugely popular. This year it gets underway on November 8 for a six-week seasonal run until Sunday December 22.
It will be spread along King Street West, St Ann’s Square, Exchange Street, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square, Corn Exchange and Cathedral Gardens, as well as Market Street and Piccadilly Gardens.
Albert Square, the traditional home of Manchester’s Christmas Market, is still closed for renovation work on the town hall.
According to the council, the stalls will be open daily during the six-week run. Craft stalls and stalls selling seasonal goods will be open each day from 10 am to 8 pm, whilst food and drink stalls will be open from 11 am to 9 pm each day.
