Salford Youth Zone to launch next year, creating 70 jobs

A new youth centre in Salford will create up to 70 jobs when it opens next year.

The charity EMPOWER, which is developing the facility, is recruiting for full-time and part-time positions across senior leadership, youth work, catering, and finance roles.

Once Salford Youth Zone launches, EMPOWER will employ 140 workers and involve over 100 volunteers.

Paul Dennett, Salford mayor, said: “The new job opportunities at Salford Youth Zone are a fantastic way for local people to join this exciting journey in providing the next generation of Salfordians a place to thrive.

“Be part of a dedicated team who are committed to providing a safe and supportive space for our youth, as part of our wider commitment to making Salford a child-friendly city.”

When the centre opens in Pendleton it will have the capacity to accommodate more than 150 young people each night.

Facilities will include health and wellbeing support, outdoor education, a climbing wall, a music studio, a multimedia suite, and a sports hall.

The centre will be open every day for people aged eight to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs.

EMPOWER launched HideOut youth centre in Gorton in 2019, which now has 6000 members.

Adam Farricker, CEO of Empower Youth Zone, said: “Young people across Salford have high aspirations and endless potential, but often don’t have the equal opportunities to realise their full potential.

“It will bring young people a safe and inspiring space to build happy, healthy, and successful futures.”
