Traitors finalist Jaz Singh showed off his musical talent in Manchester’s Arndale Centre this weekend with a public piano performance.
The Manchester-native performed a solo set on Saturday afternoon (20 April) to celebrate the upcoming second season of Channel 4’s award-winning talent show The Piano.
Jaz drew a large crowd as he played classic rag, The Entertainer, on a luxury Steinway & Sons piano in Exchange Court.
He told Mancunian Matters: “Piano is one incredible talent in my opinion and hugely underrated. I would encourage anyone and everyone to give it a go.
“I started to learn at a very young age and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to do so as I felt it developed my thinking and timing in becoming more decisive – as you saw on The Traitors!”
Jaz admitted that this was the first time he’d played in more than ten years.
Members of the public were encouraged to join in the fun by playing solo sets on the classic piano, singing along with The Piano finalist and singer-songwriter, Danny Wilsher, or tapping their toes on the seven-metre floor piano.
Stars from Manchester and beyond joined the action with Love Island All Stars winner, Molly Smith, and Hollyoaks actress, Jorgie Porter, playing The White Stripes ‘Seven Nation Army’ on the floor piano.
Media personality Christine McGuinness, Celebrity Big Brother winner, David Potts, and former Love Islander, Scott Thomas, also teamed up to show off their footwork on the big keys.
Jaz continued: “As a proud Mancunian, series two of The Piano is something I’ll be getting on the TV – I can’t wait to see some skills!”
Although host, Claudia Winkleman, and judges Mika and Lang Lang were not present at the event, in the upcoming season they discover a classically trained boxer, a dance DJ with the voice of an angel and an 80-year-old romantic who breaks their hearts.
The judges will decide who wins a place at the final concert, which will take place at Manchester’s Aviva studios.
The second series of The Piano returns to Channel 4 on Sunday 28 April at 9pm.
