Manchester City Centre park bans smoking and vaping

A Manchester park has banned all smoking and vaping on its grounds, the first green space in Greater Manchester to do so.

Mayfield Park, a short walk from Manchester Piccadilly station, has taken the step of becoming completely smoke-free.

From 26th June, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, and vapes have all been prohibited from being used within the green space.

Mayfield Park is the first new green space in the city for more than 100 years, being developed around the rediscovered River Medlock, one of Manchester’s original waterways.

Sam Jarrett, Head of Marketing and Communications for Landsec U+I, said: “We want to have a healthier, more prosperous Manchester.

“Our decision to go smoke-free was purely based on inspiring the next generation to not see smoking as a default mode.”

Mayfield Park is open seven days a week from dawn till dusk.
