Oldham local election 2023: Lib Dem councillor for Shaw hoping for Labour loss

A Lib Dem councillor from Shaw is hoping the Lib Dems can take over from Labour in a bid to improve investment in the area and regenerate the town centre.

Chris Gloster is hopeful Shaw will get rid of the Labour administration for the good for the people of the town.

He said: “Oldham Council seems to have forgotten all about Shaw. Whereas the Labour-centric council in Oldham spends around the town centre, in Shaw, we just seem to be a forgotten town in that there’s very little capital investment, if any.

“This election is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Oldham people to vote to change the face of the electorate because it’s an all-out election.

“I think there’s quite a reasonable chance that the council will end up in no overall control. If it does, that will then put us in a better position so that we can ensure funding is directed towards where we live and our constituents live.

“The biggest issue [for Shaw] is always the same issue: roads, footpaths, dog fouling, litter, and also the town centre being in need of regeneration and some capital input.”
