Andy Burnham has called for a boost in women’s and girl’s football in schools across Greater Manchester.
The Greater Manchester mayor has partnered with former England and Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley as well as the Manchester Football Association.
Together they have called for schoolgirls across Greater Manchester to have the right to play two hours of football a week in timetabled PE lessons.
This comes off the back of a similar call made by the Lionesses after their triumphant success in the summer’s Euros.
With the rise in popularity of women’s football and the upcoming Manchester derby in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, Mr Burnham felt there was no better time to be making this vital step forward.
