Summer heatwave: England saw a ten day heatwave from August 8 to August 17 – with temperatures soaring past 30 degrees celsius in parts of the UK. Parts of England and Wales saw droughts – and hosepipe bans were also introduced amid the long dry spells across the country.
Race to become Prime Minister continues: Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak set out their pledges to the country – including tax cuts from Truss and business rates cuts from Sunak. The two candidates completed 11 hustings around the UK from London to Scotland throughout the month – with issues such as energy price cap rise being discussed.
Kansas protects abortion rights: Kansas became the first US state to vote on abortion rights since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Women in the state will have the right to abortion – unlike other states in the region including South Carolina, Louisiana and Kentucky.
