Social media was quick to react to Piers Morgan’s explosive interview with Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese forward has been through a turbulent time since he returned to Old Trafford last year, and after becoming fed up with his role at the club, he revealed everything in an interview with Morgan on TalkTV.
In the 90-minute tell-all, the first half of which was broadcast last night, he criticised his manager Erik Ten Hag, saying: “I don’t respect Erik Ten Hag because he doesn’t respect me.”
Ronaldo also hit back at his own critics believing that they were jealous of him, and said that he “feels betrayed” by United.
He specifically mentioned the owners, the Glazers, saying they “don’t care about the club” and that since Sir Alex Ferguson retired there’s been “no evolution” and “zero progress”.
He had the football world gripped, but many on social media were quick to blast the comments made.
Despite the negativity, many fans did recognise that Ronaldo made valid points in relation to the ownership at Old Trafford, and the fact the club has been declining since 2013.
Piers Morgan also reacted himself and spoke on TalkSport, where he defended Ronaldo and said there should be more players like him.
He also received praise from one man who applauded his interview skills and said he provided the interview everyone wanted.
Ronaldo also commented on the criticism he’s received from pundits such as Gary Neville saying that he doesn’t consider him a friend. The former United full-back responded with an interview on Sky Sports.
The Portuguese captain also shared the heartbreaking story of the death of his child earlier this year, saying how difficult it was to continue playing.
Whatever opinion you have on the 37-year-old, the interview has received mixed opinions and will no doubt see his United career come to an end.
