Protesters in St Peters square call on UK government to help stop violence in Iran

Protesters in Manchester held Iranian flags and signs calling for the British government to take action against the Iranian government today.

The demonstration in St Peter’s Square follows weeks of protests across several countries.

On 13 September Mahsa Amini was arrested by Iran’s “morality” police for incorrectly wearing her hijab, she then died on 16 September in hospital.

Melika, one of the protesters said: “There is nothing like women’s rights in Iran…

“We want to ask government to stop supporting the Iranian government.”

This has led to protests across Iran where women can be seen taking off their hijabs and chanting “Women, life, freedom” and more people are being injured as they are fired at with live ammunition and tear gas.

Iran’s Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported 244 protesters have been killed and over 12,500 people have been arrested.

These events have sparked global protests, including here in Manchester, spreading the word of these horrific events and calling for governments to help stop the Islamic regime.

Katy Bio, another protester said: “Our protest is not just about the hijab, it’s about all the 43 years the Islamic regime had this government there has been lists of violence, there is no justice at all.

“The people are now saying the glass is full I cannot take anymore. Marsha became the last drop.”

The protesters are urging people to use the prepared letter on https://www.barayeiran.org.uk/ and send it to local MPs as well as sign the petition.

There will be another protest on the 23 October at Manchester Piccadilly.
