A man has walked 192 miles from coast-to-coast to raise money for charity.
Greg Goddard, 67, walked from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
Goddard – originally from Stockport – has volunteered for the charity for five years, and regularly helps at the Singing for the Brain sessions in Rochdale, where he now lives.
He said: “I was inspired to do this through my befriending experience – I am still friends with Fred who I was partnered up with and know how much he appreciates us meeting up.
“I really enjoyed taking the Coast-to-Coast challenge on.
“I feel a real sense of satisfaction and achievement after completing it – I am not aching too much either!”
The singing groups are held every two weeks at Castleton Community Centre and are a way for people living with the condition to stay involved in their local community.
Group co-ordinator Ali Roberts said: “[The group] has been especially popular for people living with dementia and their families as they return to face-to-face groups after the challenging times they’ve endured during the Covid pandemic.”
Music facilitator Claire Morel said: “We really couldn’t do these sessions without the input, support and enthusiasm of our volunteers and I know those who attend the sessions have really got behind Greg by sponsoring him to complete his Coast-to-Coast Challenge.”
