It was a good result for Labour in Wigan, where they won 22 of the 26 seats on offer in the local elections.
The biggest shock of the night came as the former Conservative Mayor Michael Winstanley was ousted in Orrell by the Labour and Co-Operative party candidate Dave Wood, with just 34 votes separating them.
In total, Labour now have 61 seats on the council – up three from last year – while the Conservatives and independents have seven each.
Turnout: 26%
