Get ready for St Patrick’s Day festivities to begin here in Manchester over the coming weeks.
St Patrick’s Day – which takes place on March 17 – is an Irish tradition that honours Saint Patrick, a Patron Saint of Ireland, but over the years it has become an international excuse to drink green beer and wear fancy dress.
Originally a Christian feast day that began in the early 17th century, the event is still considered a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Nowadays it is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival, including the UK, Canada, the US, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand.
With the day coming up, there are many places to get involved in the festivities in Manchester – here are just a few of the parties that will be going on on Thursday March 17.
O’Sheas Irish Bar, 80 Princess Street, M1 6NF
Irish Bar O’Sheas on Princess Street will be hosting a two-week Irish Festival from March 10 until March 20.
For the official day of celebrations on March 17, there will be free daytime entry to the bar and tickets for the evening party from 7.30pm until 2am are available here.

Ark Manchester’s PLTFRM Thursdays are hosting a St Patrick’s themed party with free baby Guinness shots on entry and £2.50 single drinks all night.

Manchester Bierkeller, The Printworks Withy Grove, M4 2BS
Paddy’s Fest will be coming to Manchester Bierkeller in the Printworks from 8pm until midnight.
The event is hosting live musicians and a comedian and is offering student drinks deals all night with a Bierkeller Student card.

42nd Street Nightclub will be playing music from Indie to Disco from 11pm until 3am.
They will be serving shots from £1 at their Paddy’s Day SKINT and tickets can be found here.

FAC251 Factory Manchester is hosting a St Paddy’s F*ck Thursdays from 11pm until 4am.
They will be serving drinks from £1.50 before 11.30pm and playing Irish pop music.
