This Thursday marks the beginning of National Grief Awareness Week.
The week is dedicated to raising awareness for all aspects of grief and loss.
Grief isn’t just the bereavement for the loss of a loved one but the sense of loss people experience at losing anything important to them.
Amidst the ongoing pandemic many people have experienced forms of grief whether for lost loved ones, their job or the loss of their way of life before the many lockdowns.
Charities are bringing awareness to the many facets of grief this week and reminding people of the resources available to them.
The Good Grief Trust helps those grieving to find support, useful information, advice and encouraging stories to help them find a way forward. According to their website they are run ‘by the bereaved, for the bereaved.’
Their site offers a tool to help you find help near you via this link.
Their patrons include Downton Abbey star Dame Penelope Wilton and Shirlie Kemp from many Wham! Music videos.
Carers Manchester, a group of organisations in the Manchester area, made sure to share resources for the grief our unpaid carers face. Their site states that carers can experience many types of grief, including:
“The loss of a future you thought you would have, for example if you are a parent of a child with a disability.
“There’s also grief as relationships with friends and family change, anticipatory grief, loss of income and financial independence, time for yourself and physical and mental health.”
Their website shares the many sources of aid for those coping with grief here.
Anyone seeking sudden bereavement help can call The Good Grief Trust from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday at 0800 2600 400.
