McDonald’s first ever vegan burger is coming to Manchester from the middle of next month.
The McPlant burger will be served in two Manchester McDonald’s branches from Wednesday, October 13.
The patties, manufactured by Beyond Meat, will be served up with Vegan Sesame buns, Mustard, Ketchup, Vegan Sauce, Onion, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato, and Vegan Cheese made from pea protein.
The burger will be cooked using separate utensils and is accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.
This is unlike Burger King’s Plant-Based Whopper, which can’t be called ‘vegan’ as it is cooked on the same broiler as the chain’s meat products.
In Manchester, the burgers will be available at McDonald’s Oxford Road and Piccadilly Gardens branches, as part of over 250 restaurants nationwide planning to serve the item.
McDonald’s Oxford Road branch is open 24/7, with the Piccadilly Gardens branch open 6am-Midnight each day.
The chain plans to roll out the McPlant to even more locations in 2022.
The burger will cost £3.49 on its own or £4.89 as part of a Medium Extra Value meal, which includes a side and a drink.
Students will be able to get a free Cheeseburger, Mayo Chicken, or McFlurry when purchasing the McPlant as part of a meal.
McDonald’s is the latest chain in the UK to explore the increasingly competitive vegan and plant-based fast-food market, with KFC’s Quorn-based Vegan Burger, Burger King’s Vegan Royale, and Greggs’ Quorn-based Vegan Sausage roll already on offer.
Those who want to try the burger early could travel to Coventry or Nuneaton from Wednesday September 29, where the burger will be available in ten restaurants two weeks early.
Off peak return tickets from Piccadilly Station to Nuneaton on the day of the burger’s launch will currently set you back around £50, with travel times of around two hours each way.
