An Eccles mum has walked 50 miles for a deaf children’s charity after learning her baby daughter is deaf.
Laresce Browne walked around Eccles woodland and the Bridgewater Canal to raise money for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDSC).
The 24-year-old mum and her partner David are being supported by NDSC as Laresce’s baby, Ella, was born deaf in both ears and uses hearing aids.
Laresce said: “I wanted to do something to contribute back to how incredible the people at the National Deaf Children’s Society are.
“Finding out your child is deaf and not knowing why makes you feel incredibly useless.
“I guess this big walk was my own way of feeling like I was doing some good!”
Laresce was accompanied throughout by baby Ella, with David, David’s mum and Ella’s gran also joining for some parts of the walk.
She has already has exceeded her target of £1,500 but hopes more donations will come.
NDCS fundraiser, Claire Lubbock said: “I want to say a huge thank and congratulations to Laresce for braving the bitter weather and completing your walking challenge.
“We’re so proud of you.”
Three babies are born deaf everyday in the UK.
There are 50,000 deaf children in the UK, 591 of which are in Manchester.
The NDCS provides these children and their families with impartial, emotional and practical support.
