The Greater Manchester Cancer Hub has been nominated for a Covid-19 award for providing vital cancer care throughout the pandemic.
The hub is spread over the Rochdale Infirmary and The Christie, in Withington and was set up in April in response to the pandemic.
It is one of nine shortlisted for the ‘Local Covid-19 Response Partnership Award’ at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2021 which looks to recognise the best innovations and collaborations in healthcare.
The Cancer Hub has provided treatment to over 2000 cancer patients and helped lessen the pressure on other Manchester hospitals.
Importantly, no patients have contracted coronavirus as a result of them receiving treatment at the Cancer Hub.
Professor Chris Harrison, deputy lead at the Greater Manchester Surgical Cancer Hub, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the hub has been shortlisted for the HSJ Partnership Awards 2021 as it reflects the superb efforts across Greater Manchester to ensure cancer surgery continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Dave Shackley, director of Greater Manchester Cancer said the success of the hub will see it being used as a model for other health conditions across Greater Manchester.
The awards ceremony will be held in Battersea, London in June.
