An NHS worker from West Yorkshire is urging people to take the covid-19 vaccine if offered it.
Social media networking sites such as Facebook have seen a rise in posts about boycotting the new vaccine, confirming fears of NHS workers and the Government.
Posts claim that there is no need to take the vaccine if people have already contracted the virus.
A group of 500 people were asked if offered the virus, would they take it? 80% said yes with a large 20% no.
NHS worker Alice Coates from Dewsbury, says this number is alarming.
She said: “It’s more than frustrating, it’s so disheartening, the staff in hospitals have put themselves through extra shifts, extra pressure, and a lack of staffing for months.
“An end is in sight, but if people refuse the vaccine all that work will just have to carry on.”
Covid vaccinations are being given to patients from GP surgeries in England this week as part of the next stage of the rollout of the programme.
Miss Coates added: “Please get vaccinated, any questions or queries you have can be resolved by speaking to a GP.
“Stop listening to people misinform you on Facebook. Facebook never has and never will be a reliable place to get information.
“This vaccine is vital for us to return to normal life, to see loved ones, and to visit those in hospital.”
Tens of thousands of people in the UK received the vaccine last week, and there are hopes of many more thousands to come.
The first groups being vaccinated are residents in a care home for older adults and their carers, all those aged 80 and over and frontline health and social care workers.
Vaccinations have already begun in several locations across Greater Manchester.
