A bar in Cheadle Hulme has designed a cocktail in honour of Greater Manchester Metro Mayor Andy Burnham.
His impressive stand-up to the government over Tier 3 Coronavirus restrictions inspired the Inventery bar to create the special beverage.
The ‘King of the North’ cocktail is described as ‘bittersweet’ on the Inventery’s Instagram page and is made of a mixture of Premium Gin and Aperol Spritz.
The drink also reportedly contains a dash of admiration, a shot of integrity finished with a splash of Northern rebellion.
Mike Miller, who announced the cocktail on Twitter, said that, ‘We’re paying homage to Andy Burnham for all the great work he has done and continues to do for the North!
The drink also has an edible cocktail topper featuring an image of Mr Burnham outside Manchester Central Library where he recently blasted the government for their treatment of the North.
Andy Burnham has been praised across the region and the country for his handling of the government’s decision to put Greater Manchester under a Tier Three lockdown.
The Mayor requested a minimum of £65 million to support businesses that would have to close during a Tier Three lockdown. The government responded to Mr Burnham’s request with an significantly lower offer of £22 million, which he discovered live on air.
This display of standing up to the government quickly prompted the hashtag #KingOfTheNorth to trend on Twitter, a nickname popularised by Game of Thrones.
The ‘King of the North’ cocktail retails for £5 and can be enjoyed alongside a substantial meal.
