Five hundred runners descended on Media City UK for a fundraising 5k race this afternoon for Sport Relief.
The BBC Philharmonic played Beethoven’s fifth symphony in its entirety as participants ran the Salford Quays circuit. Participation fees and sponsorships went to charity.
The symphony usually lasts between 30 and 35 minutes, so runners aiming to ‘beat Beethoven’ had to be fast.
BBC Radio 3’s Elizabeth Alker was optimistic, saying: “My pb is 26:40 for a 5k, so it depends how fast they play it.”
