Denton and Reddish was established as a constituency in 1983 and has always been a Labour stronghold. Andrew Gwynne took over as its Labour MP in 2005, winning a 63.5% majority once again the the 2017 General Election.

This was an increase of almost 13% on the previous election – voters seem to have transferred their allegiances mostly from UKIP which will not stand again this year.
The constituency was majority leave in the EU referendum, with 60.98% vs. 39.02% remain.
Iain Bott – Conservatives
Sheffield-born Bott lives in Westminster and works as a dentist in Marylebone. He was elected to the Westminster local council in the 2013 by-elections, and is Cabinet member for Sports, Culture and Communities. He is also Mental Health champion for Westminster. Conservatives saw a 4.3% increase in votes in the 2017 election.

Andrew Gwynne – Labour
Gwynne has held the Denton and Reddish seat since 2005. He currently serves as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet. He has previously served as shadow Minister for Transport and shadow Minister for Health. He is 45, lives in Denton with his wife.

Farmin Lord F’Tang F’Tang Dave – Official Monster Raving Loony Party
Farmin Lord F’Tang is back despite the fact he lost his deposit in the 2015 elections after securing only 0.5% of the vote. Kazoo world record holder and champion dung spreader 2002, he says: “If you’re going to vote, vote for a loony.” He lives in Denton.
Dominic Hardwick – Liberal Democrats
Hardwick has previously stood for election in the 2016 and 2018 local elections for the Didsbury East ward, and stood in the 2017 General Election for the Burton constituency. He lives in the Withington area. Libdems saw a 0.3% decrease in the 2017 election.

Gary Lawson – Green Party
A retired Church of England vicar, Lawson lives in the constituency. The Greens saw a 2.6% decrease in the 2017 election.

Martin Power – Brexit Party
Power is the first Brexit party candidate to stand for the Denton and Reddish seat.
